The best exercise to lose weight is probably not what you think.  This may be surprising to you, but one of the biggest myths about exercising is that you have to sweat bullets to lose weight and burn fat.  Actually, low-intensity cardio workouts that are varied by interval levels will help your body to burn a higher percentage of calories from fat. 

The best exercise to lose weight will consist of a workout that starts with the slow, aerobic types of exercise where you slowly ramp up the intensity level for a certain period and then return back to a slower pace.  These types of workouts involve most of the major muscle groups so they are really effective at burning body fat.

If you only do high intensity workouts, your body will burn more sugar instead of burning fat because the body needs quick energy.  Sugar from the food in your system will deliver that quick energy that your body is craving much quicker than fat.

Basketball, running, racquetball, and playing tennis and other high intensity workouts can definitely benefit your overall fitness, but those types of exercises will not burn a lot of body fat because your body makes better use of the sugar in your system for quick energy.

So, the best exercise to lose weight consists of low intensity cardio workouts where you vary your intensity level and are actually the best fat burning workouts because these types of exercises will require slow but steady energy and your body will eventually start to burn stored fat for the fuel it needs.

Some of the best fat burning workouts include cycling, walking at varying speeds, elliptical trainer workouts, swimming, and various treadmill workouts.  The most crucial thing to remember is to vary your intensity because that is what will do the best job of burning the maximum amount of body fat.
